JEO working to rule JEO was in dispute for a lengthy period of time about pay. At one point, he started to cut down on work by leaving blank spaces in his strip. He found many other ways of saving work, including recycling old strips, blank spaces and getting others to do the work. On one week (26 October 1974) the Editor of Disc, the legendary Lon Goddard, himself no mean cartoonist, completed the strip for JEO: The text is little hard to read, owing to the page being smudged in printing, but says: "Now, J. Edward... I warned you I'd fill in your protest blank myself... and force you to appear in your own strip!! Neat huh!?" Underneath: "NOTE: This square was not drawn by JEO. - Ed." Except, in capitals.
